Planning a Summer Wedding in South Wales, Herefordshire or Worcestershire? Here's Everything You Need to Know for 2027

If you're recently engaged and planning a summer wedding in 2027, first of all, congratulations! Summer remains one of the most popular times of year to get married, and for good reason. Longer days, warmer weather, beautiful gardens and the opportunity to celebrate outdoors make it an incredible season for weddings across South Wales, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

As a wedding photographer who has photographed weddings throughout these regions, I've seen first-hand what works brilliantly for summer weddings and what couples often overlook during the planning process.

Here's everything you need to know when planning your summer wedding in 2027.

Why Summer Weddings Continue to Be So Popular

Summer offers some of the most beautiful conditions for wedding photography. From outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions on the lawn to golden hour portraits just before sunset, the opportunities for stunning photographs are endless.

Some of the biggest advantages include:

  • Longer daylight hours

  • Greater flexibility for outdoor ceremonies

  • Beautiful gardens and blooming flowers

  • Warmer evenings for outdoor celebrations

  • More opportunities for relaxed guest experiences

The extended daylight also means couples don't feel rushed during the day and can enjoy more time with their guests before heading out for sunset portraits.

Book Your Key Suppliers Early

Although 2027 may seem super close, many popular wedding venues and suppliers are still accepting bookings. Times are definitely changing, and our today’s bride and groom are a last minute bunch!

BUT, Summer Saturdays are always the first dates to disappear.

I recommend prioritising:

  • Your venue

  • Photographer

  • Videographer

  • Florist

  • Entertainment

Once you've secured your venue and photographer, much of the rest of your planning can fall into place.

Consider the Heat

While British summers can be unpredictable, recent years have brought several heatwaves.

When planning your day, consider:

  • Providing shaded areas during outdoor ceremonies, and/or receptions

  • Offering water stations for guests, you do not want drunken people feinting on you (I promise)

  • Choosing breathable fabrics for bridal wear, and consider staying away from the three piece suit

  • Scheduling couple portraits later in the day when temperatures are cooler (pray for that golden hour!)

Not only will this keep everyone comfortable, but your photographs will also benefit from softer evening light.

Make the Most of Golden Hour

One of my favourite parts of any summer wedding is golden hour. (ofc)

This is the short period before sunset when the light becomes soft, warm and incredibly flattering. It's the perfect time for relaxed couple portraits away from the excitement of the reception.

Many of the images couples choose for their wall art and albums are taken during these few minutes of beautiful evening light.

Some of My Favourite Summer Wedding Venues

South Wales, Herefordshire and Worcestershire are home to some truly stunning wedding venues.

Some favourites include:

  • St Tewdrics House

  • Sant Ffraed House

  • Cefn Tilla Court

  • Pencoed House Estate

  • De Vere Tortworth Court

  • Birtsmorton Court

  • Homme House

Each offers beautiful outdoor spaces that really come into their own during the summer months.

Think Beyond the Traditional Wedding Timeline

Because summer days are longer, you have more flexibility with your schedule.

Many couples are now choosing:

  • Extended drinks receptions

  • Outdoor lawn games

  • Ice cream vans

  • Live musicians

  • Sunset cocktail hours

These relaxed moments often become some of the most memorable parts of the day.
