Why Llantilio House is ideal for a wedding weekend in South Wales

An evening image of the pool at Llantilio House, a gorgeous wedding venue in Monmouthshire.

If you’re planning a wedding at Llantilio House, one thing I’d seriously recommend considering is turning it into a full wedding weekend rather than just a single day. (And, hiring me to capture every single day!!!)

This past weekend, I photographed Kayla & Emily’s wedding here in Usk, and it was the perfect example of why this venue works so well for it. From a relaxed, hen-style evening the night before, to a calm and stress-free wedding morning, and a day that somehow included sunshine, wind and hail… it felt like so much more than just a wedding day.

Having that extra time completely changes everything. You’re not rushing, you’re not watching the clock - you actually get to enjoy it.

The Night Before – The Best Kind of Pre-Wedding Atmosphere

Instead of everyone arriving, checking in, and disappearing until the next day, they made a whole thing of it.

The evening before was basically a hen party, organised by their bridesman and bridesmaids, and it was so them. Think pool (I was also playing mermaids ofc), hot tub, sauna, loads of food (including some very on-brand rabbit-themed bits for the brides’ two rabbits, Wally & Wilbur), and even pottery painting.

It didn’t feel like a “pre-wedding event, it just felt like a really good night with all their favourite people.

They then went off to do a ghost hunt later that night… which I absolutely did not attend. From what I heard, it was successful and mildly traumatic, so I’m happy with that decision.

But this is exactly why a wedding weekend at Llantilio House works so well, you’ve got the space and time to do things like this without it feeling rushed or crammed in.

A Wedding Morning That Actually Felt Calm

The next morning was the complete opposite of chaotic, which, if you’ve been around weddings, you’ll know is not always the case.

Kayla and Emily got ready together, which I loved. No running between rooms, no building nerves separately, just a really relaxed, happy atmosphere from the start. Their dresses were different, but worked perfectly together, and the whole morning just felt easy.

There were also two really special first looks; one with Kayla’s dad and one with their bridesman, and both were those quiet, emotional moments that don’t feel staged or forced.

A Ceremony That Felt Like Them

They walked down the aisle to a live cellist, which instantly set the tone—simple, emotional, and not over the top. They had a celebrant led wedding, and due to this, the whole ceremony felt really personal. Nothing overly structured, nothing too formal, just the right balance of meaningful and relaxed that they had dreamed of from the start.

The Most Chaotic Weather (But Honestly… It Made the Day)

The weather had absolutely no idea what it was doing.

One minute: sunshine.
Next minute: strong winds.
Then: hail. Actual hail.

But this is where having a wedding at Llantilio House in Usk really helps. You’ve got options. You’re not stuck if things change, and it means the day can keep flowing without stress.

And from a photography point of view? It was perfect.

We got such a mix of images; soft light, dramatic skies, windswept moments, it added so much more character than a standard “perfect weather” day ever would.

The Little Details That Made It So Personal

There were so many small things throughout the day that just made it feel very them:

  • Kayla’s nan, Val, was there with Mike- and I actually photographed their wedding six months ago. Seeing them again, now as guests, was really special.

  • Their cake was a classic M&S Connie the Caterpillar, which felt very on-brand - fun, a bit nostalgic, and not taking things too seriously.

  • They had a live artist sketching and painting guests (myself included!!), and it was such a unique touch that everyone loved.

And overall, they had an amazing team of suppliers, which always makes a difference. Everything just worked without feeling overly structured or forced.

Why Llantilio House Works So Well for a Wedding Weekend

This venue is genuinely made for this kind of wedding.

If you’re looking at a Llantilio House wedding in South Wales, here’s why a full weekend just makes sense:

  • Everything’s in one place – no travelling around, no splitting the day up

  • You actually get time with your people – not just quick conversations between timelines

  • There’s flexibility – especially when the weather does its own thing

  • It feels more relaxed – which always leads to better moments (and better photos)

As a wedding photographer in South Wales, these are the kinds of weddings I love capturing. There’s more depth to them, more real moments, and way less pressure for everything to be “perfect”.
