What I’ve Learned Photographing Summer Weddings (And How I’ll Use It in Queensland)

If you’re planning a wedding on the Sunshine Coast, in Brisbane, or on the Gold Coast for October, November or December 2026, you already know one thing for sure:
It’s going to be hot, bright, humid, and full of golden light. (I can't freaking wait!!!)

And honestly?
That’s my favourite kind of wedding day.

After photographing years of summer weddings in the UK and across Europe; including heatwaves, sun-drenched vineyards, beachside ceremonies and humid, high-energy dance floors… I’ve learned exactly how to create beautiful, relaxed, flattering images in warm, intense conditions.

Here’s what I’ve learned… and how it translates perfectly to Queensland weddings.

1. Harsh sun doesn’t scare me — it excites me

Most couples worry about one thing when they book a spring or summer wedding in Queensland:
“What if the sun is too strong for photos?”

Strong sunlight isn’t a problem - it just needs to be handled properly.

In Europe and the UK, I’ve photographed weddings in:

  • 30°C+ heatwaves

  • midday outdoor ceremonies

  • white stone venues that bounce light everywhere

  • coastal locations with reflective sand and sea

I don’t fight bright light.
I work with it.

That means:

  • Finding open shade for soft, flattering skin tones

  • Positioning you so the sun creates glow instead of squinting

  • Using backlight for dreamy, cinematic edges

  • Turning harsh sun into editorial-style contrast

Queensland light - especially in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast - is stunning when you know how to use it. Your photos will look warm, glowy and expensive… not washed out or uncomfortable.

2. I build timelines that work with the heat

One of the biggest mistakes couples make in hot climates is cramming everything into the middle of the day.

Over the years, I’ve learned how to structure wedding timelines so you:

  • Don’t overheat

  • Don’t feel rushed

  • Still get incredible photos

For Queensland weddings in October, November and December, I’ll help you:

  • Schedule portraits later when the sun softens

  • Use shaded, breezy locations earlier in the day

  • Build in breathing room so you can actually enjoy yourselves

You don’t need to suffer through sweaty, stressful photos to have a beautiful wedding gallery.

3. Summer weddings should feel effortless — not exhausting

When it’s hot, everything feels more intense.
That’s why my photography style is built around movement, connection and natural moments rather than stiff posing.

I gently guide you so that:

  • You’re not stuck in the sun for too long

  • You’re moving, laughing, walking, leaning into each other

  • You look relaxed, confident and beautiful

This is especially important for Queensland outdoor weddings - garden venues, coastal locations, and estates all look best when couples feel comfortable in their bodies and in the moment.

4. Golden hour is where Queensland really shines

One thing I’ve learned from photographing summer weddings is this:
The best photos happen when the day slows down.

Late-afternoon and sunset light is where Queensland becomes magical:

  • Soft amber skies

  • Warm skin tones

  • Ocean and palm silhouettes

  • That effortless, romantic glow

Whether you’re getting married on the Sunshine Coast, in Brisbane, or on the Gold Coast, I’ll always plan your portraits around this time so your gallery feels:

  • Relaxed

  • Romantic

  • Elevated

  • And timeless

5. You don’t need to worry about looking “too hot” in your photos

This is something almost every bride worries about - especially in Australia.

My job is to:

  • Find the best light

  • Choose flattering angles

  • Guide you into natural, confident movement

  • And make you feel seen, not judged

That’s how you get images that feel like you - not stiff, posed versions of yourselves trying to survive the heat.

Why this matters for your Queensland wedding

By the time I arrive in Australia (September 2026!!), I won’t be learning how to photograph summer weddings.

I already know:

  • How light behaves in bright conditions

  • How people move when it’s warm

  • How to plan timelines around heat

  • How to keep things calm, beautiful and easy

If you’re planning a Queensland wedding for October, November or December 2026, you deserve a photographer who already understands:

  • Warm-weather weddings

  • High-energy days

  • Outdoor ceremonies

  • And golden-hour magic

That’s exactly what I bring with me.
