Planning your Gold Coast elopement for this summer!

The Gold Coast has become one of Australia’s most appealing places to elope - especially for couples who want something relaxed, beautiful, and free from unnecessary pressure. With beaches, and laid-back venues all within easy reach, it offers flexibility without complication.

If you’re planning a Gold Coast elopement, or wedding, this summer (October to December), here’s what’s worth thinking about - and how to make the day feel calm, intentional, and genuinely enjoyable.

Why the Gold Coast Works So Well for Elopements

The biggest draw of the Gold Coast isn’t just the scenery - it’s how easy everything feels. And, that’s exactly why I've decided to uproot my life in the UK to go live here!

Couples can choose between:

  • a simple beach ceremony at sunrise or sunset

  • a quiet hinterland location surrounded by trees

  • or an intimate venue that feels relaxed but still elevated

There’s no pressure to follow a traditional structure. Days can be short, slow, and focused on experience rather than performance - which is exactly what elopements do best.

The Best Time of Day for a Summer Elopement

Timing matters more than people expect, especially in the warmer months.

For October to December:

  • Early mornings are calm, quiet, and cooler

  • Late afternoon / sunset offers softer light and a slower pace

  • Midday ceremonies are best avoided unless you’re indoors or well shaded

Planning around heat and light isn’t restrictive - it’s what allows the day to feel relaxed instead of rushed.

Beach or Hinterland? Choosing the Right Setting

Both options photograph beautifully on the Gold Coast. The choice comes down to atmosphere.

Beach elopements

  • Open, minimal, and natural

  • Best suited to early morning or sunset

  • Wind and movement are part of the experience

Hinterland elopements

  • More sheltered and private

  • A slower, grounded feel

  • A great option in warmer months

There’s no “better” option - only what fits how you want the day to feel.

What to Wear for a Gold Coast Elopement

Summer elopements work best when outfits are chosen with comfort and movement in mind.

Lightweight fabrics, breathable materials, and clothing that allows you to move easily make a noticeable difference… especially in heat and humidity. Shoes that work for sand, grass, or uneven ground will also remove unnecessary stress.

Looking good matters. Feeling comfortable matters more.

Photography That Suits Elopements (and Small Weddings)

Elopements - and relaxed, smaller weddings - benefit most from photography that doesn’t interrupt the flow of the day.

I photograph in a documentary, natural way, focusing on:

  • real moments

  • natural movement

  • letting the location and atmosphere lead

That approach works especially well in summer, where slower pacing and flexibility make the day more enjoyable for everyone involved. And.. don’t worry, even with this natural documentary approach- you’ll still get those stunning editorial couple photos that you want.

Already Photographing Weddings on the Gold Coast

The current plan means I’ll be based in Australia for a full year, with time spent across Sydney, the Gold Coast and Brisbane from October to December, followed by time in Melbourne, and then Perth later in the year.

I’ve already just booked my first Gold Coast wedding in November at a relaxed, Texas-style barn venue in Clagiraba - a perfect example of how weddings here can range from intimate elopements to chilled, personality-filled celebrations.

While elopements are a big focus, I also photograph small and larger weddings that prioritise atmosphere, connection, and ease over rigid tradition.
