How to prepare for your Engagement Session with me!

As a wedding photographer, I often get asked (like literally all the time) questions about how to prepare for an engagement or couples session. Most of my couples aren’t professional models (though they all could be!!!), therefore having a whole session with a photographer is an incredibly daunting experience. This will usually be the very first time I meet with the couple in person as well, as I often get enquiries & bookings for all across the UK. This is why i’ve decided to put the answers to all of your questions in a blog post for your convenience!

Your outfit matters- but not in the way you think!

You'll want to wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident, and that also complement your partner's outfit. Make sure to coordinate your outfits so that they complement each other, but avoid wearing matching outfits as they can look too cheesy. Don’t feel the need to dress up (unless of course you want this!). A lot of my couples (99%) just go very very casual, in something that just feels comfortable and weather appropriate.

Choosing a location.

My only advice for this really is to choose between what you know, or what you don’t. You can either decide on a location that is meaningful to you both as a couple, or go completely out of the box and try somewhere you’ve never been before. It can be a park, a beach, a cityscape, or even your own home. We can create so much magic with just a blank canvas. What may seem boring to you, will have a completely different perspective on camera. And, after all, the session is about you guys as a couple- not where you are!

I also encourage sessions at fun places, like fairgrounds, farms, or even a butterfly zoo! These can also make things feel a lot more natural, as you really will be having a great time doing what you’re doing.

Relax and Have Fun!

Remember that the most important thing is to relax and have fun during our session. I am literally the most easygoing person ever and I will guide you through the entire process. Enjoy the experience and the memories you'll create together! If all you do for the entire session is be yourselves, it will be absolutely perfect.

The last thing I want is you guys looking back at your experience with me, hating every second and feeling uncomfortable. I’ll be talking to you, and doing silly things alongside you both!

Another thing to think about..

Another thing you could do in preparation for your session with me is to bring along some props! This is 100% not necessary, but could definitely add an extra element of your personalities. You could bring a picnic basket + blanket, some champagne or beers, a bouquet of flowers, or even something funky you saw on Pinterest or Instagram!

I will also never say no to dogs!!!!
