Cosy & Chic Winter Wedding Ideas for Modern Brides
Winter weddings are just chef’s kiss—magical, romantic, and full of those cosy vibes you don’t get any other time of year. With twinkling fairy lights, festive touches, and wintry backdrops, it’s the perfect season to celebrate love. Plus, it’s an amazing excuse to embrace all things warm and stylish.
I’m honestly buzzing for my next winter wedding at Bryngarw House (first time ever at this venue, and super excited) this December! Demi & Tommy are going for a black-and-white theme (which is going to look incredible against all those gorgeous festive details in the run-up to Christmas). If you’re planning a winter wedding, let me share a few of my fave ideas to help you nail that cosy-meets-chic vibe.
Go BIG on the Seasonal Colour Palette
Winter is all about rich tones, but you don’t have to stick with reds and greens unless you want to. Deep jewel tones like emerald green or navy, paired with metallics like gold or silver, always look stunning. Or, for something modern, monochrome with black and white makes a sleek, stylish statement.
Add Luxurious Layers
Winter weddings = layering up, but in the most fabulous way. A long-sleeve wedding dress or a chic faux-fur wrap is an easy way to stay warm without sacrificing style. Velvet is also making a big comeback this season—imagine your bridesmaids in matching velvet dresses, or even throwing in a velvet blazer for the “groom”. So lush!
Lacey gloves are also a BIG shout at the moment for all my insta girlies, though, ya may still be chilly with those.
Winter Wonderland Wedding Vibes
If there’s one thing I love about winter weddings, it’s the decor. Think fairy lights everywhere, tons of candles for that soft, romantic glow, and greenery like eucalyptus or pine for a fresh, seasonal touch. For Bryngarw House, I can already see how the black-and-white theme will pop against all the festive greenery.
Bonus Tip: Fairyhill or Rosedew Farm (both allow for indoor group shots If needed!) are also stunning winter venues here in South Wales if you’re still searching for the perfect spot!
Seasonal Foods & Drinks that warm the soul
When it’s cold outside, your menu can double as comfort food. Think hearty mains like roast dinners or butternut squash soup, followed by indulgent desserts (sticky toffee pudding, anyone?).
And let’s talk drinks! Winter weddings have to include a hot chocolate bar with all the toppings, mulled wine for that festive touch, or spiced cocktails like a cinnamon old-fashioned. Count me IN.
Wintery Florals done Right
Your bouquet can totally lean into the season. Roses paired with winter greenery, berries for a festive touch, or even dried flowers for a modern, boho vibe all look amazing. You could even add a hint of sparkle with metallic accents—perfect for those pre-Christmas vibes.
Planning for the Light - Don’t let the light plan for you!
Winter means shorter, darker, days, so schedule your ceremony with the light in mind. Aim for an earlier ceremony to capture those dreamy, natural daylight photos. And when the sun sets? Fairy lights, sparklers, or candles are made for evening shots that feel magical.
Don’t worry about losing the light though. If you’ve got me as your tog, we’ll get the flashes out and create some gorgeous editorial stuff in the dark!
Keep Guests Cosy
Winter weddings are all about warmth, so make sure your guests feel the love. Create lounge areas with blankets and cushions, offer blankets or cosy slippers, and go all out with the ambiance—think roaring fires or candlelit tables or staircases.
Winter weddings are a dream, aren’t they? From seasonal colors and chic details to cosy touches your guests will love, there’s so much to play with.
