An Intimate London Destination Elopement at the Natural History Museum

Couple exchanging private vows inside the Natural History Museum in London during their intimate elopement.

Some love stories are loud, full of guests and champagne towers.
Others are quiet, intentional, and deeply personal… the kind that unfolds softly between two people who have chosen each other, again and again.

Ashley & Mitchell flew all the way from Colorado to London to do exactly that.

No crowd. No traditions for tradition’s sake.
Just them, their vows, and one of the most breathtaking buildings in the world. (Oh… and me!)

Getting Ready at The Other House, South Kensington

Their day began tucked away inside The Other House - a moody, elegant hotel just a short walk from the Natural History Museum.

Ashley slipped into her embroidered gown surrounded by deep red velvet, candlelight, and handwritten love notes. It felt less like “getting ready” and more like the opening scene of a film whilst photographing - romantic, intimate, and filled with anticipation (and excitement) of the day ahead.

Mitchell waited for her in a tailored deep green suit, quietly nervous in the best way. They shared Christmas crackers (apparently not a thing in the US?!!! Crazy.), laughter, and quickly got their vows written before stepping out into London together.

A London Elopement, Their Way

Instead of a wedding car, they took the tube.

And honestly? That’s what made this day feel so special.

There’s something so beautifully grounding about moving through a city on your wedding day - holding hands on escalators, blending into the rhythm of everyday life, while something extraordinary is happening just for you.

They walked through Gloucester Road station, laughing, kissing, soaking in the moment - two people in their own little bubble… inside one of the busiest cities in the world.

Private Vows Inside The Natural History Museum

And then… the magic.

Hidden away inside the Natural History Museum in London, Ashley & Mitchell stood beneath soaring stone arches and intricate carved columns, where light filtered softly through centuries-old architecture.

No audience. (Aside from a few tourists who clapped at the end…bless them)
No pressure.
Just the two of them reading the vows they had written for each other.

It was quiet in that kind of weird way that makes everything feel bigger and smaller at the same time. Their words were said with so much love to each other, and as they promised each other forever, they were surrounded by history, art, and stillness in such an insanely beautiful but hectic space.

This is why I love elopements so much.
Because moments like this aren’t performative - they’re just so real, so much more you. Less about everyone else.

Editorial Portraits Around London

After their vows, we wandered through South Kensington and around the museum, creating a collection of portraits that felt equal parts documentary and editorial.

Soft kisses beneath the museum’s grand arches.
A quiet moment wrapped in each other’s arms.
And later, laughing on an escalator back through London - still buzzing from everything they had just promised one another.

Ashley’s floral gown was just stunning, and Mitchell’s classic suit gave the whole day a timeless, European feel. Together, they looked like they belonged in this city - as if London had been waiting for them to do this here.

Why London Is Perfect for Elopements

Ashley & Mitchell’s day is the perfect example of why London is such an incredible place to elope:

  • World-class architecture

  • Historic, cinematic backdrops

  • Intimate hidden corners

  • And the magic of doing something wildly romantic in the middle of a living, breathing city

You can be completely alone, yet right in the heart of it all.
